Recovered paper
Company is major user and collector of recovered paper. About half of the fibre company uses in its production consists of recovered fiber.
Company has for many years been a driving force in the development of production methods based on the use of recovered fibre and has developed new methods enabling the use of recovered fibre as raw material. The company has also established company Recycling to collect and distribute recovered fibre.
The fibre, collected through company Recycling, is delivered to the Groups European packaging, tissue and graphic paper mills and meets 100% of their total recovered fibre requirements. It is also sold to third-party mills.
Recovered fibre is an important raw material for the Groups paper mills. During 2008, company paper mills globally used 4.4 million tonnes of recovered paper in its manufacturing. Approximately 1.6 million tonnes of recovered paper is collected, processed and delivered through companys own European collection organisation.
Besides supplying the own company paper mills companys European Recycling operation sold app. 1,5 million tonnes to third party customers.

ForestsWith 2.6 million hectares, Company is Europes largest private forest owner. Over 75% of the forestland, or 2 million hectares, is used for active forestry, of which approximately 5% is excluded from felling in order to preserve the natural values of the forest. The remainder comprises areas with low timber production. The forest is managed on a long-term basis and provides the base of Companys raw material integration. Residual products from felling, such as branches and tops, are being used increasingly for production of renewable energy. A pilot project is also under way using stumps as an energy raw material. Forest-based biofuel

Forest-based biofuel

Company is one of Europes largest suppliers of forest-based biofuel. Company supplies unrefined fuels such as logging slash (branches and tops from felling), bark, sawdust and peat as well as refined fuel such as pellets and briquettes. Company BioNorr is responsible for pellet production at plants in Härnösand and Stugun, Sweden. Customers are private households as well as large and medium-size heat and cogeneration (CHP) plants in Europe. The market is growing by more than 20% annually and continues to have excellent growth prospects. Companys market share in Sweden is approximately 10%. In total, Company supplies approximately 3 TWh of refined and unrefined biofuels. The demand for energy and the need to reduce emissions of carbon dioxide from fossil fuels is resulting in strong political support for renewable energy. Accordingly, the market is projected to grow for both refined and unrefined biofuel, in Sweden as well as Europe. Conditions are favorable for Company to grow as a supplier of forest-based biofuel.

Solid-wood products

Solid-wood products

Company is one of the ten largest manufacturers of solid-wood products in Europe. Company is a qualified supplier in this segment to the house building, home furnishings and furniture industries for panels, floors, windows, doors and furniture. Another growing market is semi-industrial and industrial wood input materials, which are delivered as finished products in various lengths, dimensions and quality of selected raw materials. Products for the “do-it-yourself” market and the building materials trade are delivered planed and pre-packaged. In the solid-wood products area, the strategy is to grow toward more processed and customised components in markets that offer long-term growth. Companys own raw materials, production and logistics expertise, and closer cooperation with customers, generate competitive advantages. Company develops “Visible wood”, products for interiors and carpentry. “Developed wood” refers to products that are customised for the next stage in the processing chain and are supported by services and warehousing integrated into the customers distribution and sales.

Publication papers

All Companys publication paper products are produced from pulp that is bleached without any use of chlorine chemicals (TCF). Company focuses on the prime quality segments within magazine paper; SC and LWC paper. These are used for magazines, catalogues and printed advertising. The properties of the paper are developed continually reflecting consumer demand and customer preferences so that it can express and become an integral part of a magazines profile and message. One example of adjustment to increased environmental awareness is the recently developed SC paper Grapho Verde, which contains more than 50% recycled fibre. Company is the sixth largest publication paper manufacturer in Europe. Among manufacturers of LWC paper, Company comes seventh and is in fifth place among manufacturers of SC paper and newsprint. Company has three paper mills located in Ortviken, Sweden, Laakirchen, Austria and partly owned Aylesford, UK. Sales is conducted in approximately 40 countries.

Containerboard

Containerboard company manufactures containerboard, which is the outer layer (liner) and the rippled middle layer (fluting) in corrugated packaging. Containerboard is divided into two main categories: kraftliner and testliner. Kraftliner is based on fresh fibre, while the raw material for testliner is recycled fibre. Company is Europes second largest producer of containerboard with production at seven mills. Five of these manufacture testliner and two produce kraftliner.

Packaging

PackagingA current trend is to use the same packaging to transport, market and sell its content. This means that packaging is increasingly being used for brand and market communication. Company is one of Europes leading suppliers of packaging for a number of different applications. These include consumer and point-of-sale packaging, shelf-ready packaging, customized protective packaging, and transport packaging made from corrugated board as well as a full service concept aimed at manufacturers, distributors and retailers. Much of companys packaging is used in retail and is on display to end-consumers. Company supports its customers by providing complete packaging solutions from concept to consumer. The aim is to improve functionality, simplify and streamline transport, packing and handling of goods, provide cost-effective design, create attractive opportunities for product display and strengthen brand recognition.

Away-From-Home tissue

In North America every second napkin in the restaurant sector is supplied by company. Products within the AFH segment are aimed for hotels, restaurants and catering (HoReCa), offices, industry and healthcare and include paper towels, toilet paper, napkins, facial tissue, dispensers and tissue products used in industry. The products are marketed under the global Tork brand, which was introduced in the US in 2008. Through this move, the Group took the step toward a fully developed global platform for development, production and marketing in the AFH area. Tork is now sold in 80 countries worldwide. Company is the largest supplier of AFH products in Europe, with a market share of approximately 17%. It holds the number three position in North America with a market share of about 19%. Companys market position is particularly strong in the restaurant sector where every second napkin is supplied by company.

Consumer tissue

Consumer tissue

Company is Europes largest and the worlds fourth largest supplier of consumer tissue. The consumer tissue segment consists of toilet paper, kitchen rolls, facial tissue, handkerchiefs and napkins which are sold in retail stores. Companys brands Tempo and Zewa are the leading brands in much of Europe. Zewa is also the clear market leader in Russia and parts of Eastern Europe. The brand Edet holds a solid position in the Nordic region and the Netherlands, as does Velvet in the UK. Company sells approximately 50% of its products under its proprietary brands and the remainder under retailers brands. Company is the largest supplier in Europe with a market share of 25% and has a leading position in the rapidly expanding Russian market. Company is the second largest producer in Latin America and maintains strong positions in such growth markets as Colombia and Ecuador, and the major Mexican market. In Australia and New Zealand, company is the market leader.

Feminine care company sells feminine care products in more than 90 countries. The largest regional market is Europe, where company is the third largest player. Company holds strong, selective market positions in Europe, Latin America, Australia and New Zealand and is focusing on growth in the fast-growing markets in Eastern Europe and the Middle East. Pads and panty liners are developed for the companys own regional and local brands, which are supported by a global brand platform.
